Lib Dem Councillors Craig Card and Adrian Collett are angry at the Tory Council's weeds disgrace

Liberal Democrat councillors have taken up the cudgels on behalf of people across our area who are up in arms about the weed-infested state of our roads and pavements.

One resident said it gave the area "a seedy and run down appearance".

Weed control is the responsibility of the Tory County Council, but their performance has been widely slated.

Lib Dem County Councillor Adrian Collett explained, "Hampshire is making a hash of this. Weeds are growing much more than before. They look bad and do enormous damage to our roads and pavements. "Today's weedkillers only work if carefully applied to the leaves of the plant and don't get washed off by rain before taking effect. Clearly, the Council are not getting it right. I have been pressing them to sort this out for some time."

Lib Dem Councillor Craig Card put a motion to Rushmoor Council in July highlighting the problem, and a special group has now been set up to identify what should be done.

Craig commented, "Weed control has gone downhill since the Tories on Hampshire unilaterally decided to take it over. I want to see local control restored, so we can make sure it's done properly."
