Local Lib Dems are campaigning against the decision by Rushmoor's Conservative Council not to introduce a government scheme to provide free swimming for children under 16 and residents over 60.

Lib Dem Cllr Charlie Fraser-Fleming is dismayed at the decision not to provide funding for the idea. "I believe this is a political decision by the Tories not to support a good idea from the government. Rushmoor has £50 million in the bank from which it receives £2 million interest.

"The 'Free Swim' scheme is part of the build-up to the London Olympics. As Rushmoor has been appointed as a training area for Team GB, we should be taking a lead on this and promoting sport and healthy activity for local young people."
