Lib Dem-led Coalition strengthens its hold on Hart Council11.33.54am BST (GMT +0100) Fri 4th May 2007
The Liberal Democrat-led Coalition, that was formed to run Hart District Council after the Conservatives were thrown out at the elections in 2006, strengthened its position at yesterday's Council elections. Lib Dem Leader, Cllr Dave Neighbour, saw off a strong Conservative challenge in spectacular style, increasing his majority 13-fold from 16 votes in 2003 to a massive 215 this time. Other Lib Dem candidates in wards throughout Yateley and Frogmore & Darby Green all held their seats with strong majorities. Coalition partners Community Campaign Hart (CCH) held the seat they were defending in Church Crookham West and gained a new seat from the Conservatives in Fleet Courtmoor ward. The Conservatives, who once held 22 of the 35 seats on Hart, fell back even further this year to just 15 seats, with Liberal Democrats on 12, CCH on 6 and 2 Independents. For full results go to:
