Adrian Collett
A petition calling on all Liberal Democrat MPs to vote against the proposed rise in tuition fees has been signed by Adrian Collett, the Lib Dems' candidate for Aldershot, Blackwater and Farnborough in 2010.
The petition has been established in opposition to the coalition government's current proposed policy on tuition fees and has been signed by 104 of the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidates at the 2010 General Election including Adrian Collett.
The Chair of the local Liberal Democrats, Crispin Allard, has also written to all Lib Dem MPs urging them to vote against the proposals and press for them to be re-thought.
The local party understands that since the Liberal Democrats did not win the 2010 General Election, they are not able to implement all the policies they would like to and that, in the national interest, compromises had to be made with the Conservatives who received a much higher percentage of the vote.
However, the local party also fees strongly that the pledge to vote against an increase in tuition fees signed by many Lib Dem MPs is a 'red line' and a policy that we should not go back on.
We applaud those Lib Dems MPs who have promised to stick to the word of their pledge and vote against any increase in fees.
