Mitch Manning
Lib Dem candidate Mitch Manning nearly claimed a surprise victory over the Conservatives in the Wellington ward by-election, falling just 32 votes short.
The full result was Conservative 270, Liberal Democrat - Mitch Manning 238, Labour 184, UKIP 50, no party affiliation 12.
Mitch said "I would like to thank everyone for the feedback and messages they've given me during the campaign and the support they've shown me today at the polls. Unfortunately it wasn't quite enough but I will continue campaigning for Aldershot in the future."
"Whilst disappointed not to be elected this time, I am very happy with the campaign we ran and the local problems and issues that I highlighted"
"I apologise if I didn't see you at the polling station but I awoke with a bad cold and back so was not at the polling station for as long as I intended."
The result confirms that the Liberal Democrats are the main opposition to the Tories in Rushmoor, as Labour finished a poor third once again.
