Pyestock betrayal as Tories throw in the towel

Lib Dem President Baroness Scott (second right - with Philip Thompson, Sue Gadsby and Adrian Collett) was so concerned she came to hear from residents for herself. She raised her concerns in the House of Lords.

Prospective Lib Dem MP Adrian Collett condemned the failure of Tory-run Hart Council to challenge the decision to approve the Pyestock mega depot.

Labour's Lord McKenzie, having been a minister for only a few weeks, ruled in favour of the developers, ignoring the independent planning inspector's recommendation and the outright opposition of local people.

Yet, despite having a clear case for a High Court challenge, the Conservatives gave up the fight to the dismay of residents, leaving it to SPLAT to battle on.

Lib Dem Councillor Sue Gadsby commented, "It's bad enough the Labour Government has ignored their own inspector, but when the Tories abandon local residents as well, it's no wonder people are angry. Lib Dems are still fighting this crazy decision, not giving up."
