"Hart ache" as Lib Dems hold all their seats in Aldershot constituency but Tories regain Council

May 2, 2008 3:00 PM

An election ballot boxHart Lib Dems held all their seats within the Aldershot constituency at this year's local elections. Unfortunately, the Tories regained control of the Council after winning in Fleet and securing the backing of an "Independent" Councillor.

Lib Dem Brian Blewett was re-elected in Blackwater & Hawley, Stuart Bailey was re-elected in Yateley East and David Murr won in Yateley West.

Unfortunately, after a couple of Tory wins in Fleet, an "Independent" Councillor decided to cross the floor and back the Tories allowing them to run the Council and ending two years of successful Lib Dem-led administration.

Lib Dem Councillors will continue to work hard and monitor the Tory Council closely to ensure there isn't a repeat of the chaos two years ago when the Tories were last in charge.

The full result in Blackwater & Hawley was: Lib Dem (Brian Blewett) 669, Con 423. In Yateley East the full result was: Lib Dem (Stuart Bailey) 722, Con 478, Lab 46. And in Yateley West the full result was: Lib Dem (David Murr) 589, Con 422, BNP 84, Lab 78.
