Sue Gadsby (centre, front) and a few members of her winning team
Sue Gadsby stormed to victory for the Lib Dems in the safest Tory ward in Rushmoor on Thursday, with a massive 22% swing!
St John's ward in Farnborough had always been the strongest Conservative ward in Rushmoor, never returning anyone but Conservative councillors, year after year.
That all changed, however, on 10th November in a by-election caused by the untimely death of the popular Mayor of Rushmoor, Cllr George Dawson.
Sue Gadsby fought a positive campaign and found many people who were delighted at her active and vigorous style. She said: "Many people told me that they had always had Liberal Democrat sympathies, but had not believed we could win in St John's. I told them that if everyone who felt that way voted Lib Dem, we would win. Many of them took me up on that, ...and we won!"
The previous result (May 2004) was Con 924 (61.7%), Lib Dem 361 (24.1%), Lab 212 (14.2%)
