David Simpson and Adrian Collett are backing the campaign for a fair deal for retired Gurkha soldiers
Campaigners Adrian Collett and David Simpson are delighted that retired Gurkha soldiers are to be allowed to apply for British citizenship.
This comes under a new Government ruling after Liberal Democrat pressure.
Adrian and David, both local councillors, have been supporting retired Gurkhas in their fight to continue to live in the country they have served so well.
"I was shocked to hear they were not allowed to continue lining in Britain when they retire", said County Councillor Collett.
Hart Councillor David Simpson spoke movingly in a debate on the subject at the Liberal Democrats' national conference in Bournemouth in September.
"If they are good enough to die for us, they're good enough to live with us!" he said.
Gurkhas were based at Queen Elizabeth Barracks in Church Crookham for many years.
The new ruling only applies to Gurkhas who were discharged after 1997. About 100 former Gurkhas are living in the UK who were discharged before that date. The campaign goes on to get a fair deal for these former soldiers too.
